David Long is an associate professor at William & Mary’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business. He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval flight officer, and currently serves in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a mission commander and flight instructor. His previous professional experience includes positions at The Home Depot in business development and store management.

His research examines various approaches to impression management, including how employees use impression management to build their reputations, and how supervisors and coworkers react to these employees and their strategies. His work has appeared in several journals and books, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and The Nature of Leadership.

David's teaching and consulting focuses on introducing and demonstrating methods and strategies for improving one’s career and one’s organization. David has been recognized by Poets & Quants as one of the Top 40 undergraduate business professors. He is also the recipient of numerous undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching awards, including the Faculty Excellence Award, the Page Teaching Award and the Alumni Fellowship Award.
