Ted Hallum is an adjunct professor of business analytics at William & Mary. He also serves as deputy director for the AI Center of Excellence within oLabs at IBM. In this role, Ted drives advanced AI solutions to address the complex challenges federal government clients face. Drawing on his experience in the U.S. Army and the Intelligence Community (IC), Ted deeply understands the federal sector’s unique demands, enabling him to effectively guide engineering teams in creating targeted AI systems that solve customer pain points.

Ted possesses a diverse background spanning the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, academia, law enforcement, tech and GovCon. Moreover, he is also recognized for his thought leadership as a Data Certification Advisory Committee Appointee at CompTIA.

Ted holds a master of science in business analytics, a post-baccalaureate associate of applied science in intelligence operations and a bachelor of science in Biblical studies. His accomplishments have garnered multiple career awards and military medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal and two Bronze Star Medals.

As the founder of the Veterans in Data Science & Machine Learning community (VDSML), Ted champions the belief that a rising tide lifts all boats, and his leadership at VDSML provides multiple avenues of support to those with U.S. military service who are transitioning into quantitative careers. Ted’s contributions to AI and ML are highly valued in the GovCon space, and, as a leader, he constantly pushes the boundaries to deliver cutting-edge AI and ML solutions for the nation’s warfighters and civil servants.
