Ted Hallum is a principal machine learning engineer at Octo, an IBM company. His work at Octo focuses on the data science and algorithmic aspects of MLOps, including detecting model drift, anomaly detection in streaming data, ensuring model explainability and implementing active learning techniques. Ted also functions as deputy director for the AI Center of Excellence within Octo’s R&D lab (oLabs).

Before his work in data science, Ted served in the U.S. Army as an all-source intelligence analyst in the 3rd Infantry Division, with two combat tours in Iraq totaling 28 months. After leaving the military, he spent the next eight years doing intelligence analysis for defense contractors, with additional deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, supporting U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) elements. He focused on counterinsurgency targeting, identity intelligence, open-source intelligence (OSINT) and cyber all-source analysis.
